For Referring Physicians

International Patient Referral
and Specialist Coordination

Identify an appropriate international specialist or centre, prepare a review-ready case file, and coordinate the pathway with structured updates and return handover.

Healwise provides non-clinical case preparation and coordination. Clinical assessment, acceptance and treatment decisions remain with licensed healthcare providers.

Support your patient’s next clinical step.

for neurosurgeons, neurologists, oncologists and referring physicians

Healwise supports referring physicians with structured coordination for complex international neurological and neurosurgical cases. We help clarify the clinical question, organize medical records and imaging, identify a relevant international specialist or provider pathway, coordinate the enquiry, and support continuity back to the referring team.

Do you have a patient who may need specialist review, advanced treatment assessment, or a clearer pathway abroad?

Healwise can prepare the referral and coordinate the next appropriate step.

We help address three common barriers: uncertainty about which international specialist or centre fits the clinical question, incomplete or fragmented case documentation, and limited feedback after an external referral. Healwise manages the non-clinical coordination while keeping the referring physician involved, subject to patient consent.

How Healwise supports referring physicians

1

Specialist and centre identification

Based on the clinical question, required expertise or technology, documentation, geography and provider criteria, we help identify a relevant international specialist or centre and coordinate the enquiry. The receiving provider independently decides acceptance and clinical next steps.
2

Administrative case management

We acknowledge physician inquiries promptly, provide a documentation checklist, track requests and clarify the next coordination step. Our initial administrative response is normally provided within two business days.
3

Review-ready documentation

We help organize medical summaries, imaging files, pathology where relevant, prior reports, treatment history and the key clinical question so the receiving team can focus on the decision points.
4

Consultation and pathway coordination

Following provider acceptance, we help coordinate communication, appointments, practical arrangements and admission preparation for consultation, further assessment or treatment.
5

Consent-based communication

We support clear communication among the patient, family, referring physician and receiving provider, including interpretation support where needed and subject to patient consent.
6

Feedback and return handover

We provide structured status updates and, where available, help return the provider's response, discharge information and follow-up instructions to the referring physician.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Healwise identify a relevant specialist or centre?

We consider the clinical question, specialty and sub-specialty required, relevant technology or treatment capability, available documentation, provider admission criteria, geography and practical feasibility. Healwise coordinates the enquiry; the receiving licensed provider independently determines whether the case is suitable for review, consultation or treatment.

What information should a physician referral include?

Please provide a concise medical summary, the specific clinical question, diagnosis and timeline, relevant reports, treatment and medication history, current functional or neurological status, imaging availability in DICOM format, pathology where relevant, urgency, patient contact details and confirmation that the patient has agreed to the referral and information transfer.

Does submitting a case guarantee specialist review or acceptance?

No. Submission starts an administrative and documentation review. Specialist review, candidacy assessment, consultation, admission and treatment are subject to provider criteria, clinical fit, complete documentation, urgency, capacity and availability. Clinical assessment, diagnosis and treatment recommendations are made by licensed healthcare professionals, not by Healwise.

What countries and regions does Healwise serve?

Healwise coordinates international neurological and neurosurgical cases through European provider networks and selected international specialists and institutions. Feasibility depends on the condition, documentation, required expertise, patient location, funding, travel considerations and provider availability.

What feedback will the referring physician receive?

Subject to patient consent and the information released by the receiving provider, Healwise provides acknowledgement, requests for missing documentation, status updates at key coordination steps, the provider’s response or proposed next step where available, and relevant discharge or follow-up information for return handover.

How is continuity of care supported?

We keep the referring physician involved where appropriate, help collect provider correspondence, discharge information and follow-up instructions, and support a structured handover back to the local clinical team. The referring physician retains responsibility for local care within their professional scope.

Are referring physicians paid for patient referrals?

No. Healwise does not pay referring physicians for patient referrals. Patients receive clear information about consultation, diagnostic, treatment, travel, interpretation and coordination-related costs before decisions are made. Referring physicians are not financially liable for the patient’s care.
